Dr. Cliff Kemp Bio

My career is highlighted with an extensive academic background, professional experience, and research contributions in the field of networking and cybersecurity.

With a Ph.D. in College of Engineering and Computer Science from Florida Atlantic University (2021), I bring cutting-edge expertise in network architecture and security, intrusion detection systems, virtual machine systems, wireless network administration, and artificial intelligence/machine learning applications. My research focuses on detecting various cyber-attacks, such as slow denial-of-service (DoS) attacks, by analyzing network traffic patterns using machine learning algorithms. Additionally, I have a bachelor’s degree in economics and two master’s degrees in educational technology and computer Science. I earned a Ph.D. from College of Engineering and Computer Science at FAU, researching machine learning intrusion detection techniques in cyber security to prevent DoS attacks on Networks.

In my current role as a Professor of Information Technology at Indian River State College since 2008, I have developed and implemented innovative curricula that integrate modern trends like AI, networking, cybersecurity, and virtual machines. My teaching and research efforts emphasize practical application of concepts, ensuring students are well-prepared for real-world challenges in the field.

Prior to my academic career, I served as an IT Tech Support specialist with St. Lucie County School Board, where I gained hands-on experience in maintaining school networks and troubleshooting hardware and software issues. This foundational experience, combined with my technical expertise, has contributed significantly to my ability to bridge theory and practice in cybersecurity education and research.

I am particularly proud of my contributions to cybersecurity research, including the development of frameworks for detecting man-in-the-middle attacks and HTTP DoS attacks, as detailed in my selected publications. My work has been recognized through grants such as the Cyber Defense Two-Year Education (CAE2Y)/NSA Grant (2018) and the Cyber Defense Four-Year Education (CAE4Y) Grant (2020), demonstrating a commitment to advancing cybersecurity education and research.
